HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is a nationally recognised training that provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to respond to first aid emergencies in accordance with guidelines issued by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other relevant Australian national peak clinical bodies.

This course applies to individuals who may be required to provide first aid in a range of settings, including workplace and community environments.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal prerequisite units for this course. However, to ensure participant safety and successful course completion, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Physical ability to kneel on the floor and perform uninterrupted CPR for at least two (2) minutes
  • A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be provided prior to certification
  • Sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to understand course materials, instructions, and assessment requirements

All students must complete the required online learning and assessment component prior to attending the face-to-face practical session.

  • Pre-course learning and assessment must be successfully completed before practical training
  • Students who do not complete the online component will not be permitted to attend the practical session

Total Duration: Approximately 8 hours

Delivery includes:

  • Mandatory pre-course online learning and assessment
  • One (1) day of face-to-face practical training, simulation, and assessment

This course is delivered using a blended delivery model, consisting of:

  • Pre-course online self-paced learning and assessment
  • Face-to-face classroom instruction
  • Practical skills training and simulated assessment activities

Training is conducted with direct supervision and instruction from a qualified trainer and assessor in a controlled training and simulation environment.

The course covers the following key areas:

  • Responding to emergency situations
  • Applying appropriate first aid procedures
  • Performing CPR in accordance with ARC guidelines
  • Using first aid equipment and resources
  • Communicating incident details to emergency services and others
  • Reviewing incidents and evaluating personal performance

Assessment includes:

  • Completion of online knowledge-based assessments prior to face-to-face training
  • Practical skills demonstration in a simulated environment
  • CPR compression and ventilation techniques demonstrated on approved resuscitation manikins in line with ARC guidelines

Students must demonstrate competency in all assessment tasks to be deemed competent.

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid includes the skills and knowledge covered in the following units, as part of this training only:

  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
  • Students must demonstrate competency in all assessment tasks to be deemed competent.

These units are embedded within HLTAID011 in accordance with the current training package requirements and are not delivered or assessed as standalone units.

No separate Statements of Attainment will be issued for HLTAID009 or HLTAID010.

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid only.

The certification is valid for 36 months (3 years) from the date of issue.
